Have you heard of AJR yet? AJR is a three-piece brother band that consists of Adam, 23, Jack, 16 and Ryan, 19. These brothers write, produce, edit and record their own music in the comforts of their living room. Their talents are endless as you will see! Be sure to check out their official Facebook page where they debut new songs each week on New Track Tuesday!
We had the opportunity to interview the guys, and girls, listen up…they revealed some great info!!
CTB: Who are your musical influences?
AJR: Growing up we listened to a lot of the classic songwriters who wrote their own music. We love the Beach Boys, Simon and Garfunkel, Billy Joel and Bob Dylan. When we write music, we combine the styling of renown songwriters with contemporary artists like Fun. Imagine Dragons and Bruno Mars just to name a few.
CTB: Tell us a little bit about your typical day.
AJR: On a typical day, we wake up, take a shower, brush our teeth, eat breakfast, work on some music, go to a few meetings, hit the gym, hang out by the pier, have some dinner, respond to fans on twitter, save cats from trees, and hit the hay!
CTB: What else would you be if you weren’t singers/songwriters?
AJR: We would probably be ice fisherman.
CTB: How would you describe your personality?
AJR: As a whole our personality is very real. We haven’t changed anything about us to become this band. There is nothing staged or forced and we all have kept exactly who we are. Adam is the wise old man, Jack is the young ball of energy, and Ryan is the glue that holds us together.
CTB: What is your TV guilty pleasure?
AJR: We love Portlandia, Louie and The Office
CTB: What is it like spending so much time with each other?
AJR: Being brothers allows us to be completely honest with each other when it comes to decision-making. The process goes relatively smoothly because we know how each of us will react to certain decisions and we all have a clear idea of the direction we want to take our career in. It is great that we get to work with people that we are so close to and understand us really well. Not to say that we don’t argue sometimes…
CTB: What is your favorite hobby?
AJR: One of our favorite hobbies is playing Ping-Pong. Jack is actually really good at it and he always beats Ryan and Adam.
CTB: Who is your celebrity crush?
AJR: Mila Kunis
CTB: If you were stranded on a desert island, what three items would you take with you and why?
AJR: We would bring a piano so we could play music, a Ring Pop because of its everlasting flavor, and a book of poems by Shel Silverstein
CTB: What’s your worst habit?
AJR: Our worst habit is that we keep forgetting to reply all to emails.
CTB: If you could meet anyone in the world dead or alive who would it be and what would say to them?
AJR: We would want to meet Brian Wilson because of his innovative talent and his ability to capture emotion in a song. We would ask to collaborate on a song with him.
CTB: What is the one piece of advice you would give to your fans trying to pursue their dreams?
AJR: Keep doing your own thing. Don’t copy anybody else. We don’t need more copies of other artists out there. We always got advice to change ourselves to be like someone else and that was wrong! As soon as we started being ourselves, we gained popularity.
